The UK Avios Travel Rewards Programme is closing

You may have heard the news. In the coming months, the UK Avios Travel Rewards Programme will close, but Avios, the currency, will remain. As part of the closure, some of our customers will be moving to the British Airways Executive Club. You’ll still be able to collect and spend your Avios in many of the same ways, plus there’ll be lots of exciting new benefits coming your way.

What happens next?

We have now contacted all of our customers individually to explain exactly when this will happen and what this means to you. But should you have any questions, we’ve compiled a list of FAQs which will hopefully answer any queries you may have.

If you already have a British Airways Executive Club account then you can transfer your Avios straight away below without having to wait for the move date.

What if I don't want to move?

If you have chosen to not open a British Airways Executive Club account and opted out before 20 May 2018, we will be in contact to confirm your opt out choice in due course.

If you have joined the Avios Travel Rewards Programme since 9 April 2018 and wish to opt out, please Contact us. However, if you do opt out, your account will close in 6 months, in which time you’ll need to spend all your Avios or lose them.

 
 

FAQs

What’s happening to the Avios Travel Rewards Programme?

The Avios Travel Rewards Programme in the UK is closing, but don’t worry your Avios balance is safe. If you’re not already a member of one of our airline loyalty programmes we will be moving your membership to the British Airways Executive Club.

Why is this happening?

This is happening to simplify the programme and improve collection and spending opportunities for everyone.

How will it affect me?

Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to collect and spend Avios with many of the partners you do today, you’ll just have a new home to do it all from. All customers were contacted back in April by email or by letter to inform you of the changes to your account as well as provide instructions on any actions you need to take, if any. If you’re not already a member of one of our airline loyalty programmes, we’ll create a British Airways Executive Club account for you.

Do I need to do anything?

In the majority of cases you won’t need to do anything. Please refer to the email/letter that you have received from us.

I don’t have a British Airways Executive Club account, should I create one now?

There’s no need to do this. One will be set up on your behalf.

What if I already have a British Airways Executive Club account as well as an Avios Travel Rewards Programme account?

If you want to, you can move your Avios across now, that way we won’t need to open another account for you. You’ll find how to do this under your account on avios.com.

I already have a British Airways Executive Club account and you have created a new one for me. What do I do?

Please contact British Airways on 0344 493 0747 and select option 3, and they will merge the accounts for you.

Will my balance be safe?

Yes, there’s nothing to worry about. Your balance is completely safe.

I can’t see my balance in my new British Airways Executive Club account.

After the Avios Travel Rewards Programme has closed there will be a short delay in your balance moving over to your British Airways Executive Club account. Please bear with us during this time.

Will my Avios login work on the British Airways Executive Club?

No, you’ll need to use your British Airways Executive Club details. The British Airways Executive Club will send details of how to create a new login once your account is set up.

How will I know once my account has been created?

British Airways will be in touch with instructions on how to get up and running once your account has been created. Please note you will need to go to ba.com and activate your account in order to spend your Avios.

What if I need to access my account, what do I do?

You can still access your account on avios.com until the Avios Travel Rewards Programme has closed.

Can I still use avios.com?

You’ll still be able to go on the website but you won’t be able to login after the move has taken place – unless you’re an AerClub or Vueling Club member. You’ll be able to login to your British Airways Executive Club account on ba.com once you’ve been notified.

Will I be able to make changes to an existing booking during and after the move?

Yes, simply use the contact number on your booking confirmation.

How do I query missing Avios?

Please continue to use avios.com for any missing Avios queries you have before the move. Once your British Airways Executive Club account is set up and your balance has moved across you can use ba.com to query any missing Avios, even if they were collected before moving.

How long will it take for my new British Airways Executive Club account to be open?

After 21 May 2018 we’ll start creating new British Airways accounts. Please bear with us during this transition period as it may take some time. The British Airways Executive Club will be in touch with your new account details and how to activate it when it’s ready, until then you can continue to collect and spend as you do today.

I'm not a frequent flyer. Will this move be relevant to me?

You don't need to be a frequent flyer to benefit from collecting and spending Avios. With the British Airways Executive Club, Avios can be collected on flights but also on so much more through everyday spending on groceries, fuel and travel. As well as collecting on credit cards and with hundreds of popular retailers on the British Airways Avios eStore.

I haven't received a letter or email - will my account still be transferred?

If you haven’t received a letter or email by 20 May 2018 please call our Customer Call Centre on 0344 49 333 49 so we can make sure your account is managed appropriately.

Can I spend my Avios while my balance is being moved over?

While your Avios Travel Rewards Programme balance is being moved across to your British Airways Executive Club account there will be a short period of approximately 48 hours where you won’t be able to spend your Avios.

What shall I do if I have more than one UK Avios Travel Rewards Programme account?

Please contact us and we will combine your accounts.

If I already have a British Airways Executive Club account should I move my Avios across?

Yes. You can get ahead and move your Avios across now. Don’t worry, any Avios left in your account after the programme has closed will be moved across into your British Airways Executive Club account.

I'm having problems moving my Avios into my British Airways Executive Club account

Please check your details match exactly on your Avios Travel Rewards Programme and your British Airways Executive Club account. If you continue to have problems, please contact us.

Where can I get details of my transaction history?

Please visit your account section on avios.com. After the Avios Travel Programme closes you will no longer be able to view your statement online.

What happens if I have opted out but have now changed my mind?

Please call 0344 49 333 49 as soon as possible.

Should I cancel my Avios Travel Rewards Programme account if I have transferred my Avios to my British Airways Executive Club account?

No, you don’t need to cancel your account. We will close this for you once the Avios Travel Rewards Programme officially closes.

If I collect now, will my pending Avios be transferred?

Absolutely. So please feel free to collect as many Avios as you like before, during and after the move.

Will I still be able to collect via the same partners with the British Airways Executive Club?

Yes, you will be able to collect in many of the same ways as you do today, plus there will be some exciting new partners to collect with.

What happens if I auto collect with Tesco?

Your Avios will simply go into your new British Airways Executive Club account.

Does the British Airways Executive Club have an eStore with the same retailers?

Yes it does. It’s called the British Airways Avios eStore.

Does the British Airways Executive Club have in store collecting opportunities?

Yes it does. You can find out more about it here .

Can I still collect Avios through card linking/in store with my new British Airways Executive Club account using the same card?

Yes, so long as you have a valid payment card/cards and you haven't opted out of moving to British Airways Executive Club. Your card details will not be shared but simply your Avios collected will be added into the new account.

As a British Airways Executive Club member will I be able to spend in the same way?

You’ll be able spend in many of the ways you do today, plus you’ll be able to manage your bookings online and spend on oneworld airlines.

Can I still use Avios and money on the British Airways Executive Club?

Yes, you can use Avios & Money for reward flights with the British Airways Executive Club. You’ll also have the option to use your Avios to part pay and save money on cash bookings on ba.com

Does the British Airways Executive Club have Rewards Flight Saver and will my Avios Travel Reward Programme collection make me eligible for it?

You’ll be pleased to hear that Rewards Flight Saver is the same with the British Airways Executive Club and all customers who have earned 1 Avios in the last 12 months will be eligible.

Can I still buy and gift Avios with the British Airways Executive Club?

Yes you can.

If I’m a British Airways Executive Club member can I use my Avios to save money on a flight with Aer Lingus, Vueling or Flybe?

Once your British Airways Executive Club account is set up, you can move your Avios across to AerClub, Vueling Club, or Flybe programme to spend your Avios as you wish.

What if I have an existing booking?

Don’t worry, your booking is completely safe. If you’d like to make any changes to your booking please contact us.

Will my Avios be worth the same as they are now?

All your Avios will be worth the same with the British Airways Executive Club.

Do I need to fly with British Airways to collect Avios?

Flying with British Airways is just one way to collect Avios. There will be lots of other ways that you can build your balance such as through everyday spending on groceries, fuel and travel, as well as through credit cards and with hundreds of popular retailers on the British Airways Avios eStore.

Will I still get information about new partners and special offers?

Yes. You’ll still receive news about the best ways to collect and spend Avios. The only change is that after your account has moved, it will be the British Airways Executive Club that gets in touch. You’ll need to give British Airways permission to send you marketing messages when you register your new account.

Can I still collect Avios with my Lloyds Avios credit card or TSB Avios credit card?

Yes you can. We will set up a British Airways Executive Club account for you and your Avios will be awarded into this account.

Will I still be able to use my Lloyds Upgrade voucher?

Yes you can you can still book online with your voucher until the programme closes. After this you’ll need to contact us to book on 0344 49 333 49. Please make sure you use it before the expiry date.

Will I still be able to use my Lloyds or TSB Worldwide Companion ticket?

Yes you can you can still book online with your voucher until the programme closes. After this you’ll need to contact us to book on 0344 49 333 49. Please make sure you use it before the expiry date.

If I earn a new TSB or Lloyds voucher after the move, will I still receive it?

Yes, just make sure you use it before the expiry date.

Can I continue to earn in order to get a Lloyds or TSB voucher?

Yes. You can continue collecting Avios with your card and we will notify you once you have collected enough for your voucher.

What if I am an existing member of another airline programme, where Avios is the currency?

If you’re a member of AerClub, Vueling Club or Flybe you’ll continue to collect and spend Avios with these airline programmes as you do today.

Why is my Avios Travel Rewards Programme account not moving to the British Airways Executive Club?

This could be due to the fact that one of your accounts within your household is associated with one of the following airlines; Aer Lingus, Vueling or Flybe. For further information, please contact the Contact Centre 0344 49 333 49.

What happens if I joined the Avios Travel Rewards Programme via Flybe?

As you joined the Avios Travel Rewards Programme via Flybe, you’ll be pleased to hear that Flybe are creating their own loyalty rewards programme, where you’ll still be able to collect and spend Avios. Flybe will honour your Avios balance when the Avios Travel Rewards Programme closes. You’ll be sent more details about this change soon.

When will I find out more about the new Flybe loyalty programme?

We will be in touch once we have more news. Under the new programme you will be able to collect and spend your Avios with Flybe and a selection of partners, much like you do today.

Can I move my Avios between airline loyalty programme accounts?

Yes, you will able to move your Avios between accounts in order to spend them where you wish.
