Our journey to Avios - making life more rewarding for over two decades

Our story

For more than two decades, we have been developing innovative ways to collect rewards with some of the biggest consumer brands, like American Express®, Lloyds Bank, TSB, Tesco and Shell.

Our story began in 1988 with the launch of Airmiles – the UK’s first travel loyalty programme. We launched Avios in 2011, signalling the beginning of a new journey towards more exciting, more flexible rewards.

In 2013 we launched Avios in South Africa, partnering with some of the biggest brands in the country – Pick n Pay and ABSA, to name just a few.

Avios is our shared global reward currency used by International Airlines Group (IAG) reward programmes: the Avios Travel Rewards Programme in UK and South Africa, British Airways Executive Club, and Iberia Plus. You can also collect Avios through the Meridiana Club in Italy.

Today, we operate travel rewards programmes and collection opportunities in markets around the world, including the UK, Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.

We have over 7 million active members collecting Avios with the Avios Travel Rewards Programme, British Airways Executive Club and Iberia Plus.

Our parent company
