2009 AVIOS Israel Proceedings now available for download

To address the need for more frequent networking opportunities, AVIOS is supporting the creation of Local Chapters. This will provide a forum for people interested in speech technology across all dimensions – research, application development, or marketing – to convene more frequently and to learn more about advances in their own region.

The Israeli Local chapter was officially announced in 2005 and has change the face of the speech community by creating a forum for people to meet, exchange views and interact.

Dr. Nava Shaked is the chairperson of the Israeli chapter and is also an active member of the AVIOS board. Over the years the nationwide annual AVIOS meeting in Israel has made a name for itself.

About the Israeli Speech Community
In recent years we are witnessing the growth of the speech community in Israeli companies and startups are arousing the interest of the international community for it ingenuity and creativity. Companies like Verint, Nice, Persay have positioned themselves very high in the global market.

The market is changing and evolving and people like to keep informed and updated with the news inside and outside the country.

AVIOS Israel annual conferences
For the past 4 years we had an annual AVIOS Israel conference which attracted hundreds of people and was divided between 60% customers and 40% suppliers.

In AVIOS Israel we leverage best practices, and share them across our speech community. When AVIOS members travel on business trips, we create an opportunity for them to speak at our local chapter events. This expands the opportunity to bring in experts on particular topics to local chapter meetings. In this way we had guests from Nuance, Genesys, Voice Objects and icon leaders such Dr. Judith Markowitz and Dr. David Nahamoo as key note speakers.

The 5th annual AVIOS Israel conference will take place in Afeka Tel Aviv Academic College of Engineering on Oct 14^th.

This year Keynote Speaker is David Thomson, senior VP Speech Technologies at SpinVox . The purpose is to bring academic people to participate for the first time together with industry people to encourage the dialogue between Industry and Academy worlds.

A final note:
The speech community is filled with wonderful people who are in many ways special. Our purpose in establishing a local chapter in Israel is to overcome the distance and bring the new and interesting from oversees to meet the new and innovative which is our share in Israel.
