We’ve some important news for you. The Avios Travel Rewards Programme, in South Africa, is closing on 31 May 2019. You can continue to collect Avios with our collection partners, as you do today, until 31 March 2019 but you will be able to spend your Avios until the programme closes. Any Avios remaining in your account after the closure date will be lost, unless you take action.

To keep your Avios, and to keep collecting, after the Avios Travel Rewards Programme closes, you must follow these next steps before 31 May 2019:

Important: Your personal details must match on both accounts in order to transfer your Avios. If you are already a British Airways Executive Club Member transfer your Avios to your existing account. There is no need to open a new account.

Important information about collection partners and existing bookings

BP

From 31 March 2019, BP will no longer be an Avios Travel Rewards Programme or British Airways Executive Club collection partner, which means you will no longer be able to collect Avios, with BP, after this date.

As a valued customer, BP is delighted to announce that they have partnered with Pick n Pay Smart Shopper and you can now earn Smart Shopper points when you refuel at BP.

Avios credit card

If you have an Avios Credit Card, from 31 March 2019, you won’t be able to collect Avios when you use it. Your bank will contact you soon with some exciting options available to you.

British Airways Executive Club Members have the option to apply for a British Airways Credit Card issued by Absa bank. Find out more.

Other collection partners

From 31 March 2019, you will no longer be able to collect Avios with Pick n Pay, Wine-of-the-Month Club and Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty as these partners will no longer be Avios Travel Rewards Programme or British Airways Executive Club collection partners.

    Can I still use avios.com?

    You’ll still be able to go on the website and login until 31 May 2019. After this date avios.com in South Africa will be closed. You’ll be able to login to your British Airways Executive Club account on ba.com once you’ve created your account.

    Can I spend my Avios balance before the programme closes?

    Until the 31 May 2019 you will be able to spend your Avios balance as an Avios Travel Rewards Programme member.

    Where can I get details of my transaction history?

    Please visit your account section on avios.com. After the Avios Travel Rewards Programme closes you will no longer be able to view your statement online.

      I’m not a frequent flyer. Will this move be relevant to me?

      Flying with British Airways is just one way to collect Avios. There will be lots of other ways that you can build your balance such as through everyday spending with their global partners, as well as with the British Airways Executive Club credit card.

      What if I already have a British Airways Executive Club account as well as an Avios Travel Rewards Programme account?

      You will need to move your Avios over to your British Airways Executive Club account. Find out how - Transfer my Avios

      Will my balance be safe?

      You must take action to ensure you don’t lose any Avios you have collected. If you move your Avios over to your British Airways Executive Club account, your Avios will be safe. Alternatively use them on British Airways reward flights on avios.com or on kulula.com flights. If you don’t transfer your points to your British Airways Executive Club before 31 May 2019, you will lose your Avios.

      I’m having problems moving my Avios into my British Airways Executive Club account

      Please check your details match exactly on your Avios Travel Rewards Programme and your British Airways Executive Club account. If you continue to have problems, please contact us.

      I can’t see my balance in my new British Airways Executive Club account.

      If you haven’t moved your Avios, you will need to move your balance over to your British Airways Executive Club account. Transfer my Avios. Your account should be credited instantly. If you have any problems please get in touch on: +27214 277 555*.

      Will my Avios login work on the British Airways Executive Club?

      No, you’ll need to use your British Airways Executive Club details.

      Will I still be able to collect via the same partners with the British Airways Executive Club?

      Some of the partners you collected with previously will no longer be available. This includes BP, Pick n Pay, Wine-of-the-Month Club and Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty. However, you will be able to collect in many of the same ways as you do today, plus there will be some exciting new global partners to collect with.

      As a British Airways Executive Club member will I be able to spend in the same way?

      You’ll be able spend in many of the ways you do today, plus you’ll be able to manage your bookings online and spend on our oneworld® alliance partners.

      Can I still use Avios or Avios & Money on the British Airways Executive Club?

      Yes, you can use Avios or Avios & Money for reward flights with the British Airways Executive Club. You’ll also have the option to use Avios Part Payment and save money on cash flight bookings on ba.com.

      Can I still buy and gift Avios with the British Airways Executive Club?

      Yes, you can.

      What if I have an existing booking?

      Don’t worry, your booking is completely safe. If you’d like to make any changes to your booking please contact us.

      Will my Avios be worth the same as they are now?

      All your Avios will be worth the same with the British Airways Executive Club.

      Will I still get information about new partners and special offers?

      Yes. You’ll still receive news about the best ways to collect and spend Avios if you give British Airways permission to send you marketing messages when you register your new account.

    How do I query missing Avios?

    Please continue to use avios.com for any missing Avios queries you have before the Avios Travel Rewards Programme closes on 31 May 2019. After the programme closes, as long as you have moved your balance across to a British Airways Executive Club account, you can use ba.com to query any missing Avios, even if they were collected before moving.

    I haven’t received an email or an SMS about the closure – what do I do?

    If you haven’t received an email or SMS you can still move your Avios to a British Airways Club Account or spend Avios to save money on kulula.com flights.

    Should I cancel my Avios Travel Rewards Programme account if I have transferred my Avios to my British Airways Executive Club account?

    No, you don’t need to cancel your account. We will close this for you once the Avios Travel Rewards Programme officially closes.

    If I continue to collect now until the programme closes, will my pending Avios be transferred?

    Yes, after the Avios Travel Rewards Programme closes, any Avios pending for your account, collected on flights, hotels, car hire or any of our collection partners will be automatically moved into your British Airways Executive Club. This will only happen if you have previously transferred Avios between the accounts yourself, otherwise your Avios will be lost.

      What happens if I joined via kulula.com?

      Members who joined via kulula.com can continue to collect Avios until 31 March 2019 but they will be able to spend their Avios until the programme closes on 31 May 2019. You can spend your Avios on kulula.com flights by converting them into Travel bank credit and use it as payment towards any kulula.com flight, at any time in the future. Find out how.

      Yes. You can convert your Avios to Travel bank credit, before 31 May 2019, and use as payment towards flights and flight combo bookings, at any time in the future. Find out how.

      Do I have to use my Travel bank credit on kulula.com before the Avios Travel Rewards Programme closes?

      No, Travel bank credit doesn’t expire so as long as you have converted your Avios to Travel bank credit before 31 May 2019 you can use it as payment towards flights and flight combo bookings at any point in the future.

      How do I convert my Avios to Travel bank credit?

      To convert your Avios to Travel bank credit you need to have a kulula ID. Once you have created a kulula ID, you can then convert your Avios to Travel bank here.

      What are the benefits of creating a Kulula ID?

      You need a kulula ID to convert Avios to Travel bank credit. It is free to create and you will enjoy a faster booking experience and receive special offers from kulula.

      How much Travel bank credit will I get if I choose to convert my Avios?

      For every 1000 Avios converted, you will receive R60 of Travel bank credit which can be used toward paying for kulula.com flights and flight combos.

      Are there any restrictions on which kulula.com flights I can use Travel bank credit?

      No. Once you have converted your Avios into Travel bank credit you can then use it to pay toward the cost of all domestic flights sold on kulula.com. kulula operates over 400 flights per week across 14 domestic routes so you will be sure to find the route you are looking for!

      • Other Airline Programmes

        What if I am an existing member of another airline programme, where Avios is the currency?

        If you’re a member of AerClub, Vueling Club or Flybe you will no longer be able to collect or spend Avios after 31 May 2019, using your Avios Travel Reward Programme details. You can, however, carry on collecting Avios with our partner airline programmes by registering with them separately.

        N.B. You MUST use a different username, to the one you used for the Avios Travel Rewards Programme, when registering with our partner airline programmes.

        Can I move my Avios between airline loyalty programme accounts?

        You will only be able to move your Avios between Avios Travel Reward Programme and British Airways Executive Club accounts before the 31 May 2019. After this date, you will no longer be able to move Avios between these accounts.

        I need to access my airline account, what do I do?

        You can still access your existing airline account until 31 May 2019. After this date you will no longer be able to access your airline account with your Avios Travel Reward Programme details.

        Will I be able to make changes to an existing booking after closure?

        Yes, based on the terms and conditions at the time of booking any changes to existing bookings can be made by calling us on +27214 277 555*.

Your Avios will be lost if you haven’t transferred between the accounts yourself, by 31 May 2019.

          Can I use my new British Airways Executive Club membership number to collect Avios, when making a booking with Avis?

          Yes, you must provide your British Executive Club membership number when making a booking with Avis, as you would have provided your Avios Travel Reward Programme membership number previously.

          Can I change the loyalty membership number I provided, on my Avis booking?

          Yes, you will need to call Avis to make the change or you can do this with Avis when you pick up your vehicle.
