FAQs

  • Reward Flight Saver FAQs

    What is Reward Flight Saver?

Reward Flight Saver is available on domestic and regional flights, in southern Africa, with British Airways (operated by Comair), which is a fixed cost and is used to pay towards taxes, fees and carrier charges. The amount of Avios customers pay towards the flight depends on the destination.

What changes are you making to Reward Flight Saver?

Reward Flight Saver within southern Africa changed from 14 November 2018. The fixed cost paid towards taxes, fees and carrier charges will change from R350 to R500 for a one way flight in Traveller (Economy class) and from R400 to R900 for a one way flight in Club (Business class).

Why are you making these changes?

Due to ever increasing costs, we have had to adjust the Reward Flight Saver fee in order to continue offering this benefit.

In addition to the above, we have reviewed the ways our Members spend Avios on flights, and listened to their feedback requesting greater flexibility. As a result, from 14th November, we introduced Avios part payment which allows Members to use specified amounts of Avios to reduce the cost of a cash flight booked on ba.com. Avios can be used on any British Airways cash flights (including those operated by Comair) with no availability restrictions.

What about my existing Reward Flight Saver booking?

Any Reward Flight Saver bookings made before 14 November 2018 won’t be affected.

What happens if I need to make changes to a Reward Flight Saver booking?

You can change the date and time, for an amendment fee of R545 per person, by calling us on +27214 277 555*, but you can’t change the names of travellers. If the price goes up we need to take the additional Avios/Avios & Money, if the price goes down there will be a refund due. The price you paid for the Reward Flight Saver fixed fee will not change. Inside 24 hours, changes are not permitted.

*Please note: calls may be recorded for training purposes. The standard Telkom rate for a local call is 42c per minute during Standard Time (Mon-Fri 07.00 – 19.00) and 21c per minute during CallMore Time (Mon-Fri 19.00 - 07.00 and Fri-Mon 19.00 – 07.00), with a minimum charge of 57c per call (excludes calls from cell phones and other licensed operators).

What happens if I cancel a Reward Flight Saver booking

If you cancel more than 24 hours before departure, the Avios/Avios & Money and Reward Flight Saver fixed cost are fully refundable but you will be charged a cancellation fee of R545 per person. No refunds are available for cancellations within 24 hours of departure.

Are there any other ways to use my Avios on flights?

Yes. You can now use Avios part payment to save money on all British Airways bookings (including those operated by Comair).

What is the difference between Reward Flight Saver and Avios part payment?

Reward Flight Saver includes a flat fee payable in place of the usual taxes, fees and carrier charges on reward flights booked on avios.com where the flight is paid for in full with Avios. Reward flights are subject to availability which can be limited or unavailable during peak times.

Avios part payment allows you to use specified set amounts of Avios to reduce the cost of a cash flight booked on ba.com. There is no availability restriction.
