Companion Vouchers

If you earned your Companion Voucher with an American Express British Airways Credit Card then it will be valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

If you earned your Companion Voucher with an American Express British Airways Premium Plus Card then you will have 24 months to use it before it expires.

You can check the expiry date of your Companion Voucher in your British Airways Club account. Once you have logged in, navigate to the ‘Membership’ tab and scroll down to the “Your membership and offers” link. Click on the “View Vouchers” link and you’ll be able to see your active and inactive vouchers. Vouchers could be inactive if they have been used or are expired.

You must have taken your outbound flight by the time your Companion Voucher expires, but you can return after the expiry date.

You can find your  Companion Voucher in your British Airways Club account. Once you have logged in, navigate to the ‘Membership’ tab and scroll down to the 'Your membership and offers' link.

Click on the 'View Vouchers' link and you’ll be able to see your vouchers. Vouchers that are expired or have been used already will be in the 'Inactive vouchers' tab. 

You will also be able to see any valid and unused Companion Vouchers in the “Membership” tab in your Amex® App.

Yes, you can use your British Airways Companion Voucher with flights operated by Iberia and Aer Lingus as well as British Airways.

You will need to book your Reward Flight via the British Airways website to use your Companion Voucher.

You will need to use some Avios when you book a Reward Flight with your Companion Voucher, but they do not have to cover the cost of the whole flight if you would prefer to use cash for a bigger portion of the fare.

If you earned your Companion Voucher with an American Express British Airways Credit Card, you can use this to book the Euro Traveller or World Traveller (economy) cabins only. 

If you earned your Companion Voucher with an American Express British Airways Premium Plus Card then you can pick any cabin including First.

Yes, you can use a Companion Voucher to purchase a return ticket on a return flight. You need to check there is availability on each leg of your trip, which you can do on the British Airways website, simply click on the “ Book with Avios ” link.

You can also check Reward Flight availability via the Avios app and by using the Reward Flight finder on the Avios website.

Generally speaking, a Companion Voucher has to be used within the allotted time frame, but in some special circumstances British Airways may consider extending the voucher by three months. 

These include:

• Where a flight is cancelled by the airline;

• Serious illness (where a GP or medical professional letter providing supporting evidence of illness is provided);

• High-risk pregnancy (when a GP or medical professional letter is provided);

• Bereavement of an immediate family member (where supporting documentation is provided);

• Career or job exemptions (where individuals may not be able to travel due to extenuating circumstances) for example, medical professionals and the Armed Forces (where supporting documentation is provided);

• Carer responsibilities (where supporting documentation is provided) and subject to medical sign-off from a medical professional;

• Where an immediate family member is unable to travel due to illness (and where a GP letter or letter from a medical professional is provided);

• Natural disaster and/or significant socio-political conflict impacting the Cardmember’s and Companion Voucher’s travel itinerary.
