Buy Avios

Anyone with a British Airways Club, AerClub or Iberia Club account who is at least 18 years old, and either has an account balance of at least one Avios, or has a balance of zero Avios and has collected or redeemed at least one Avios in the last three years.

Please note: It’s not possible to purchase, gift or subscribe to Avios while living in or travelling to Germany. You can still collect Avios as normal on your other travel and daily spending

Once your Avios has been paid for, it should be credited to your British Airways Club account immediately, but it can take up to 36 hours. If it has been longer than 36 hours and you have not received your Avios, you can open a claim for missing Avios.

You can buy or gift up to 200,000 Avios per calendar year, in one or more transactions. This limit resets on 1 January every year.

To transfer Avios you must have an account balance of at least 1000 Avios.

Gifted, transferred or received Avios have their own yearly cap and do not count towards your Buy Avios limit. Bonus Avios from a purchase also do not count towards your annual limit.

Avios expire if your account has been inactive for 36 months.

When you buy Avios, your whole balance stays active for 36 months from the purchase date. If you receive gifted Avios, your whole balance stays active for 36 months from the date you received the gift.

When you transfer Avios to another member in your Household Account, the Avios will be added to the balance of the person you have transferred them to.

When any Avios are spent, a proportional amount from each member’s balance in the household account will be deducted.

You can use the Balance Boost function as many times as you’d like, provided your Avios are eligible. The first 300,000 Avios can be boosted at our cheapest rates. After that, the price goes up.

Please note: Avios are available to purchase worldwide, with the exception of Germany.

If you have changed your mind, you can get a refund for your Balance Boost within 14 days. Just click on the refund link in the transaction confirmation email and we’ll do the rest.

Once the refund is processed the transaction can be boosted again, provided it’s still within the 30 day limit from when you originally collected your Avios.

You can request a refund within 14 days of your original transaction date if the Avios have not been spent. Go to 'My Subscription' and select 'I’d like a refund'. Once confirmed, we will refund you within 14 days.
